The electrical panel is the heart of your home's wiring, and in a lot of Broward and Miami-Dade houses it's older than the people living there. Panels don't usually fail all at once. They give warnings first.
The most common sign is breakers that trip when two appliances run together, like the microwave and the toaster, or the dryer and the AC. That means the circuits are loaded past what they were designed for. A second sign is a panel cover that feels warm, or a breaker that buzzes or smells hot. Those need attention right away.
Third, check the brand. Federal Pacific (Stab-Lok) and Zinsco panels have well-documented problems with breakers that don't trip under overload, and many Florida insurers will ask you to replace them before renewing a policy. Fourth, a 100 amp service is often too small for a modern home with central AC, an electric range, a pool pump, and an EV.
Fifth, if you're planning a remodel, an addition, a pool, or an EV charger, the panel may not have the space or the capacity for new circuits. Sixth, if you're still running on fuses, or you see double-tapped breakers and tangled wiring when the cover comes off, it's time.
A panel upgrade usually takes a single day, including the utility disconnect and reconnect. We start with a load calculation so the new service fits what you have now and what you plan to add. Call (305) 462-5852 for a free estimate.
